Michael was born and raised in the Quad Cities area of west-central Illinois. After completing an A.A. Degree in Music from San Bernardino Valley College in San Bernardino, California he enlisted in the U.S.Air Force and served 4 years as a musician-percussionist in three SAC Field Bands. After military service he returned to the Quad City area and enrolled at Augustana College in Rock Island and graduated in 1968 with a B.A. Degree in History and Geology. Subsequently he attended the University of Idaho and in 1972 graduated with an M.S. Degree in Geology. Recent post-graduate college studies have included Website Design, Oral Interpretation of Liturature, Voice and Diction, Geography, PhotoShop, Music Appreciation, Humanities through the Arts and American Liturature.
Michael is currently retired but still works part time in various capacities. He has continued as an active musician-percussionist, and in 1981 became a Founding Member of the Redlands Fourth of July Band, a community band in Redlands. This band has become an Institution in the City of Redlands and will celebrate its 42nd Season on July 4th, 2022.
Michael married fellow Founding Member, Ann, Section Leader of the Flutes on March 3rd, 1984. Ann was a Redlands Bowl Young Artist Auditions Winner in 1977. Together, they have two children -- Rebecca and Andrew and two (soon to be four) grandchildren -- Saedee and Kaelee. From his previous marriage, Michael has three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
